Couple weeks ago I told you about how I learned about TikTok Categorization and SEO.
After that, I paused for about a week and a half.
Learned how to do TikTok Categorization and SEO.
Implemented it.
And am now telling you what happened.
Here's what happened:
- I went thru a quite extensive SEO audit for both my channels.
- Identified keywords for one of them (the business-related channel)
- Learned how to create SEO optimized content
- Wrote and recorded 5 new videos
- Posted 4 of them so far (5th one going out today)
- 2 of the videos I posted got picked up by TikTok SEO
The next step is to keep creating SEO optimized content till one of the videos takes off.
Patience… is the name of the game now.
Well, patience, consistency, execution, implementation, and continuous improvement… to name a few lol.
The good news is: This is Progress!
At least on the business-related channel.
Let me explain.
AND we want to create a predictable way of doing it!
Not just a one-hit-wonder with no idea of why it worked.
This is where TikTok Categories come in to play.
If it says “Find Related Content” — it means the TikTok algorithm has no idea what this video is about.
BUT… if it says anything else, that means that the TikTok algorithm has categorized the video under the category listed above.
The First Step Was to Level Up My SEO Game
And identify what to get categorized for.
Aka what keywords to target with my content.
That’s where the search began.
It took a LONG time to go thru this keyword finding process.
I uncovered some biases in TikTok.
For example: it turns out that no matter how popular certain topics are… it will NOT SEO optimize the content.
One such example is literally anything to do with men’s help, positive masculinity, quitting porn and addictions type stuff.
It almost feels like this type of content is actively suppressed…
BUT… the good news is that it still exists and there are some large scale creators that are doing this kind of content successfully!
(you know where this is going…)
The bad news is that a channel like this can’t be predictably grown.
In my opinion, at least.
My masculinity content has been doing decently on TikTok and pretty well on YT… so I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing on both to see what comes of it.
Let’s call this "The Passion Channel".
Now the business-related channel is where things got interesting.
I was able to uncover 2 keywords to target:
- small business
- marketing
Everything else seemed too unpredictable or had no rhyme or reason to it.
In order to grow the channel predictably from here, I want to make sure that I’m hitting these keywords with my content.
The more I hit these keywords, the more my videos get shown to people that like that kind of content.
In theory, it should only be a matter of time.
In practice, well… we’ll see.
In addition to SEO-optimizing my content, I’ve also optimized my profile to target these 2 keywords.
See my new profile below.
The Second Step Was to Level Up My Content Game
Here’s what I did:
- Learn how to improve my script writing
- Get super clear on who I’m talking to
- Focus on what would be valuable to my viewer
- Write, Record, Publish another round of videos
- Learn from what happens
- Repeat the process
What I came up with was a 5-video series of the things that I’ve personally done in marketing that I think would be beneficial to anyone who’s a small business owner or looking to do marketing.
I wanted to make them story-based videos, with an example baked in, and a curiosity loop outro.
Here are the 5 videos if you’d like to check them out.
Pay particular attention to the hooks and outros.

Please Note: Video 5 was just published today.
2 of these 5 videos have been categorized, look below.
(5th video was just posted a few minutes ago, will take some time to get categorized)
My keyword targeting is working for the exact keywords I want to be hitting.
This is an excellent sign moving forward.
The Third Step is to See What Happens, Learn, and Create More
After posting these videos, I’ve realized that the way for me to grow my channel is to create helpful content for my target audience.
Story-based content about “here’s how I did X” is great.
Can be helpful.
And, I believe, is solid for authority…
BUT… it’s still not hitting the mark on helpful content.
I want to be solving my target audience’s problems.
For free.
To cement myself as a helpful guide in their world.
And when they need help with their marketing, etc… I will (hopefully) come to mind for them.
This is also the reason why I’ve been asking you for what you’ve been struggling with in your own business and brand building endeavours.
Please answer this short 2-minute survey.
It helps me know what you need help with and what kind of content I should focus on creating.
Conclusion
For now, the fact that my content is SEO-optimized and getting categorized correctly are both very positive signs to keep going.
Where I could improve is with the type of content I’m creating.
Getting back on top of my consistency with publishing.
And enjoying the process again.
I’m realizing that I wanted to produce results so badly that I forgot to enjoy the process…
…and started seeing everything in terms of win or loss.
With zero regard for the fact that I’ve been creating content for the first time in my life AND publishing daily on two different channels across two different platforms.
It’s not the win I want, but it’s the one I’ll take.
Maybe it’s me just motivating myself to keep going.
Just curious, how do you motivate yourself to keep going during tough phases?
Would love to hear what you have to say.
Cheers
Abhi
