Episode #066

5 Popular Productivity Tips (that Are Making You LESS Productive)

There's no end to listicles, tips and hacks to improve your productivity. Unfortunately, many popular productivity tips are catchy, memorable and even attractive... but they do more harm than good.

In this episode, we go through some of the most popular advice we've found online, on the topic of getting things done and explain potential flaws in this advice. The idea here is not to bad-mouth producitvity techniques, but to explain the mechanisms and principles behind them to a deeper level.

The better you understand how human attention, focus, deep work, flow states and other principles work, the better you are at evaluating productivity advice by yourself. Knowledge is power and in this episode, we aim to give you more power when it comes to getting things done.

Some of the topics we touch on include:

  • The Pomodoro Technique
  • The 2 Minute Rule (sometimes also called the 60 second rule)
  • The pitfalls of working from home
  • Inbox Zero
  • The fixation on task management tools
  • Whether you should listen to music while doing deep work
